The set up

Heres a few photo’s of my initial setup.

Virgin Media supplies a 1Gbps down speed connection with an upload speed of 57 Mbps so that’s enough speed for pretty much all i do and enough for other members of the household to do things at the same time without slowing the connection at all. Its needed as i download lots, upload to my websites as well as streaming to all the rooms in the house. lighting is controlled via hue as well as Alexa so things from turning on the lighting to turning on the tv as well as the heating can all be controlled by voice commands. My entertainment system comprises of full virgin media channels but i mainly use a NVidia Shield with Plex ( My viewing content ) as well as amazon prime, netflix , disney + all built in so i am never short of anything to watch on TV or i can feed this to a 100 inch projector for that cinema feel. All tied in to a Audio sound system for those explosions to fill the room .

Synology is my choice for router as its pretty robust , gives full speeds and has great security features built in , this ties well with my own server , a Synology 918+ with enough storage and redundancy should a drive fail , it can easily rebuild itself without loss of any data.

My Computer has recently had a makeover, new case and motherboard , AIO watercooler with an lcd display to show information when required but i like to show funny gifs on that 😛 , Its still running a Ryzen 2700x but thats still plenty fast enough for my needs at present as im not a heavy gamer so my graphics card is a little old but still pulls its weight even for a nvidia 1060 gpu.
